DHS Released More Than 8500 Illegals Into U.S. Cities in 8-Day Span; Majority of Border Crossers Not Deported Once They Leave DHS Custody

  • Between June 4 and June 11, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released about 8,500 illegal immigrants and border crossers into various U.S. cities. That equals about 1,000 illegals being released daily.
  • Per reports, “the catch and release process often entails federal immigration officials busing border crossers into nearby border cities — as well as flying them into the interior of the country — and dropping them off with the hope they show up for their immigration and asylum hearings.”
  • Former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has cited “three executive actions the Trump administration and DHS officials could take to immediately end catch and release — including creating additional detention space where immigration court hearings can be heard quickly.”
  • According to Acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan, about 90% of asylum seekers don’t show up to their hearings, and the majority of illegals aren’t deported from the U.S. once they are released from DHS custody.
  • McAleenan also testified that “100 percent of adult border crossers arriving at the southern border with children are being released into the U.S. and eventually given work permits to take American jobs.”
  • With between 11 and 22 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S. currently, the majority reside in Texas, Florida, California, Illinois and New York.
  • According to federal data, “since December 21, 2018, DHS has released a total of 204,500 border crossers and illegal aliens into the interior of the country.”
  • These 204,500 were sent to four specific cities: El Paso, San Antonio, Phoenix and San Diego.
  • Per reports, “San Antonio, for example, has been forced to absorb nearly 80,000 border crossers and illegal aliens in less than six months.”
  • El Paso has taken in 72,500 people, Phoenix has 37,000 and San Diego has received 19,000.
