Associate Pastor of CA Megachurch, Mental Health Advocate Jarrid Wilson Dead at Age 30 by Suicide; Tweeted Foreboding Message Hours Before

  • According to confirmed reports, 30-year-old Jarrid Wilson, the pastor of a California megachurch, died on Monday as a result of suicide. Wilson was known for speaking out about mental health issues and his personal struggle with depression.
  • Wilson was the “associate pastor at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, under Pastor Greg Laurie.”
  • Wilson also “co-founded Anthem of Hope, a mental health nonprofit helping people dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts.”
  • The pastor leaves behind “his wife, Julianne, and two sons, Finch and Denham.”
  • The news of Wilson’s passing shocked and saddened the Christian community with many taking to social media to share their grief and condolences.
  • In a statement released by Laurie on Tuesday, he said: “At a time like this, there are just no words. The Bible says, ‘There is a time to mourn.’ This is certainly that time.’”
  • Laurie continued: “Jarrid loved the Lord and had a servant’s heart. He was vibrant, positive, and was always serving and helping others…He wanted to especially help those who were dealing with suicidal thoughts.”
  • Julianne Wilson wrote a tribute on Instagram “to her loving, giving, kind-hearted, encouraging, handsome, hilarious, give the shirt off his back husband, and added, “Suicide doesn’t get the last word.”
  • She continued: “Your life’s work has led thousands to the feet of Jesus and your boldness to tell others about your struggle with anxiety and depression has helped so many other people feel like they weren’t alone.”
  • Julianne added: “YOU WERE an ANTHEM OF HOPE to everyone, baby, and I’ll do my best to continue your legacy of love until my last breath.”
  • Hours before his suicide, Wilson tweeted: “Loving Jesus doesn’t always cure suicidal thoughts. Loving Jesus doesn’t always cure depression. Loving Jesus doesn’t always cure PTSD. Loving Jesus doesn’t always cure anxiety. But that doesn’t mean Jesus doesn’t offer us companionship and comfort. He ALWAYS does that.”
