Trump Says There’s No ‘Racial Tension’ With Black Community Despite Ongoing Feud with The Squad; Predicts He’ll Win Large Portion of Black Voters in 2020

  • Despite his ongoing feud with “The Squad,” which saw him throwing jabs at the group of female minority progressive leaders on Monday, President Trump said “there is no racial tension with the black community” and predicted he would win a large portion of black voters in 2020.
  • With the House denouncing Trump’s tweets and remarks towards Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar as racist last week in a resolution after telling them to “go back” to their countries and they can “leave America right now,” the president continues to attack the women.
  • On his way to pay his respects to the late former Justice John Paul Stevens on Monday, Trump called the women “a very Racist group of troublemakers who are young, inexperienced, and not very smart.”
  • Later on, he responded to his feud with “The Squad” and said “there’s no racial tension with the black community” and said he has fantastic relationships with blacks.
  • Trump said: “We have fantastic relationships with the African American community, and I think you’ll see that in 2020.”
  • Trump added: “Look, I had my best numbers recently and it’s because of the economy and what I’ve done for the African-Americans. The African-Americans are doing better than they ever have in our country. We’re creating numbers.”
  • However, he said of the women: “I think they’re very bad for our country. I think they must hate our country.”
  • Trump also said the lawmakers are “very bad for the Democratic Party because they are pulling it to the left.”
  • In response to Trump’s attacks, the lawmakers held a press conference last week where Pressley said: “Our squad is big. Our squad includes any person committed to building a more equitable and just world…And given the size of this squad and this great nation, we cannot, we will not, be silenced.”
  • There have been repeated calls for Trump to apologize for his remarks, which he has refused to do and continued to double down on his criticisms of the group.
